Ashley Avery is a feminist writer, poet and advocate living in KJIPUKTUK (Halifax). She is a former member of the Hali Slam team and a competitor at the 2017 Canadian Festival of Spoken Word. Ashley has performed her poetry at numerous protests and community events across the province. She has an honours diploma in social service work from Seneca, a BA from MSVU and is currently completing her MA in women and gender studies at MSVU. When she isn’t writing and performing, she is working as the executive director of Coverdale, a nonprofit that supports women and youth involved in the criminal justice system.
