Stitched Together
by Melanee Morin
They cornered us in dark alleys and bedrooms at night,
Unravelled our selves while they sought their delight,
Leaving mismatched pieces of a person strewn behind
Like a sick trail back to a whole soul we'll never find.
Left a burden to crush that was too heavy to carry,
So we laid down listlessly beneath the night deep and starry,
But the cosmic fires could not reflect on our cold icy eyes
That saw too much of the world's cruelty and lies.
Yet the heart continued to beat and the chest raised for air,
And a spirit slowly rose within that was noble and fair:
Defeat could be allowed when we wandered alone
But we had to rise to save others from the beasts on the throne.

Tower Under Threat
by Melanee Morin
I wore baggy clothes to mask the curves you covet,
I took the safe way home instead of the shortcut,
I met your friendliness with mace, just in case,
I knew you were still out there, caressing my fate.
Safe was a relative state, never fully formed,
Always caught in the eye of a furious storm,
At the mercy of others' broken souls
I could never fix, so I stayed behind high walls.
