Your Words are Louder
by Natasha Power
When doubt washes over you like waves
An ocean pouring through your veins
When darkness trickles down the window of your soul
Blocking out the sunshine that once lived there
Remember your voice

When the words of men and many
confuse your fierce heart
With each blow threatening to break down
the armor they hate you for wearing
Each word chipping away at your sanity
along with your drive
Remember your words are louder

You are a woman, and you are valid
You are not “too strong”, you are strong
You are not “too confident”, you exude the confidence
of a woman who cannot be shaken
When your body is weak from holding that head high
Remember this body is yours, and fly
Natasha Power is an Early Childhood Education student and mother. Both herself and her young son happen to have Autism. Using writing to come to terms with her innermost emotions, her poetry style often takes the form of a diary. Often shying away from social norms, Natasha has a deep interest in issues such as under-diagnosis and misunderstanding of women on the spectrum, cultural acceptance, freedom of expression, tolerance of uniqueness in society, and LGBT rights. Growing up misdiagnosed has caused great trauma, which often comes out in her writing. This past trauma has fueled her desire to help others in similar situations and to advocate for youth and women with neurodiversity.
